On a used machine the control matters as much as the iron. It decides how easily you get spares, how quickly a service engineer reaches you, how many operators already know the machine, and what it will resell for. Fanuc, Siemens and Mitsubishi are the three you'll meet most often.
Fanuc — the default in India and Asia
Fanuc is the most widely installed CNC control in India. That brings real, everyday advantages: the largest spares pool, the most service engineers, and the deepest bench of operators and programmers who already know it. Fanuc uses standard ISO G-code, is famously reliable, and boards/drives are readily available (new, exchange or refurbished). For most job shops buying a used machine, a Fanuc control is the lowest-risk choice and holds resale value best.
Siemens — strong on complex and European machines
Siemens (SINUMERIK 828D / 840D sl) is common on European machines and shines on complex, multi-axis and 5-axis work. Its ShopMill / ShopTurn conversational programming is excellent for one-offs and shop-floor programming, and the control is powerful for advanced kinematics. The trade-offs in India: a smaller service network than Fanuc, pricier spares, and fewer operators fluent in it — budget for training if your team is Fanuc-raised.
Mitsubishi — capable and cost-effective, often on Japanese lathes
Mitsubishi (M70 / M80 series) appears frequently on Japanese and Taiwanese lathes and machining centers. It is a capable, cost-effective control with a familiar ISO-style interface. Spares and service exist in India but the network is thinner than Fanuc's, so lead times on rare boards can be longer.

- Job shop, simple-to-medium parts, lean team: favour Fanuc for the ecosystem and resale.
- Complex/5-axis or you already run Siemens: Siemens rewards you, just plan for spares/training.
- Buying a well-priced Japanese lathe on Mitsubishi: perfectly fine — confirm local service reach for that model first.
Due-diligence checklist for any used control
- Power it up and cycle every axis; check for alarms in the history.
- Confirm the control generation is still supported (not end-of-life with no spares).
- Ask for the parameter/backup files and ladder — invaluable if a board fails.
- Check the battery-backed memory and that a data backup exists.
- Verify the operator panel, MPG and keys all work — replacements can be costly.
